The Pembroke Rec Department is offering a one-day\, 3-hour babysitting course to help young sitters improve their babysitting skills and learn the dos and don’ts of being home alone. It is an ideal course for kids ages 10 and up who want to start babysitting\, or perhaps would like a review of the best babysitting practices. This class will provide some hands-on practice caring for infants-spoiler alert\, diapering- and provide information on child development\, playing with young children\, basic first aid\, fire safety and prevention\, and overall\, the general responsibilities of babysitting. There are two date choices available to take this class\, Friday November 29th from 9am to 12pm and Friday December 27th from 9am to 12pm. Both are taking place at the Pembroke Community Center. The cost is $80\, and you can sign up through the Pembroke Park and Rec website.

Rooted in the traditional stories of the first ever thanksgiving\, locals and travelers from all over look to Plymouth as the epicenter of all things thanksgiving. Thanksgiving will come to life with history-brought-to-life as Pilgrims\, Native Americans\, Soldiers\, Patriots\, and Pioneers fill the streets of Plymouth. Opening ceremonies this year begin at 9:30am on November 23rd at Pilgrim Memorial Park on Water Street\, followed by the lively parade featuring floats bringing the stories of history to life\, from pilgrims and native people to pilgrims\, soldiers\, patriots\, and pioneers. Launching at 10:00 am from Plymouth Rock\, the parade will continue around Water Street to Main Street to Court Street\, and end at Benny’s Plaza at 179 Court Street. From 11am to 4pm the waterfront will have a banquet of fun things to do\, including a Craft Beer and Wine Garden\, a Children’s Pavillion\, a food truck alley\, a historic village\, living historians and the Native American Pavillion. DESCRIPTION:About the act of sitting down and writing the first draft of a novel\, author Vladimir Nabokov said “The pages are still blank\, but there is a miraculous feeling of the words being there\, written in invisible ink and clamoring to become visible.” The Pembroke Public Library has invited author Stephen White to lead How to Write a Novel\, a workshop that promises to help you begin to make those invisible words appear on the page. In other words–get started on that novel!  A writer for over 50 years with his 12th novel currently in the works\, Stephen will cover all aspects of the novel writing journey\, from brainstorming and shaping your ideas\, to building characters and writing what you know\, to the editing and how to publish your book.
