On Thursday January 23rd join Mass Audubon at the Manomet Branch of the Plymouth Public Library for “Owls of Massachusetts.” This informative program will teach the anatomy and behavior of Snowy Owls and other common owl species found in Massachusetts\, and the significance they all have to local habitats. Adults and families aged 6 and up will enjoy learning more about why humans have given such a HOOT about these captivating birds for thousands of years. There will be no live captive owls as a part of this program. This FREE program is made possible by generous support from the America the Beautiful initiative in partnership with Plymouth Public Library.

Keeping the tradition alive\, The Wildlands Trust is hosting a fun DIY Valentine’s Card Making workshop for kids ages 7 and up on Saturday February 8th. From 10am to 12pm botanical artist and Conservation Agent Tricia Cassady will guide your young creators through the artistic process of crafting their own nature-themed Valentines using watercolors\, colored pencils and pens. All art supplies are provided\, and everyone will leave with up to four handmade cards to take home and exchange with your favorite Valentines. You are welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks to keep the young artists fueled up for creation. There is a small cost of $10 per participant\, discounted to $5 if you are a member. Poetry from My Brain Parts is presented in partnership with The Big Read Cape Cod. Tickets can be purchased through the Cape Cod Community website. General admission tickets are $15. Students get in for $10\, and seniors $5. There is a matinee performance as well\, on Sunday\, February 9th at 2pm. Tamora’s debut book of poetry will be available for pre-purchase at the event. Cape Cod Community College is located at 2240 Iyannough Rd in West Barnstable.

DESCRIPTION:Where do you start If you are wading into the experience of buying a home for the first time? The process can be bewildering and overwhelming. A good place to start may be at the Adams Center in Kingston on Tuesday\, February 4th for the first of the Home Buying Seminar Series–three classes to help clarify the entire process and ease the path to home ownership. How to Obtain a Mortgage\, the first in the series\, will be taught by Michael Fleming\, Rockland Trust Vice President and senior loan officer. You’ll learn how to qualify for a mortgage\, save for a down payment\, and about the pre-approval process. Fleming will additionally discuss interest rates\, mortgage products\, what happens after an offer is accepted\, private mortgage insurance\, and various programs available to first time homebuyers. This class will be run from 6 to 7pm\, and you can register via the Kingston Public Library website\, where you will also find information about the two other classes in the series– “Looking For A Home & An Overview of the New MLS Rules” taking place on Wednesday February 5th\, and “How To Close A Real Estate Transaction” happening on February 11th.
