DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the anniversary of the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth with the Old Colony Club\, who first commemorated the landing on December 22nd\, 1769. After some time\, the celebration was reinstituted in 1956 to include a march\, band music\, and the firing of a cannon. This annual tradition has continued each Forefather’s Day since. The December 20th production is at 7:30PM\, the December. 21st matinee is at 2:00PM\, and December 22nd at 3:00.  For those who would like to have a full day of holiday celebration in Kingston\, December 21st is also the date of Kingston Luminaries. True Rep is collecting canned goods for the Vineyard Resource Center in Kingston and working with the Kingston Fire Department to collect new\, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. If you have the means and interest\, please bring these items with you to the show. This family fun event will also feature Mrs. Claus making cookies for children to decorate before the show\, and a Santa visit and sing-along afterward. The Pembroke Rec Department is offering a one-day\, 3-hour babysitting course to help young sitters improve their babysitting skills and learn the dos and don’ts of being home alone. It is an ideal course for kids ages 10 and up who want to start babysitting\, or perhaps would like a review of the best babysitting practices. This class will provide some hands-on practice caring for infants-spoiler alert\, diapering- and provide information on child development\, playing with young children\, basic first aid\, fire safety and prevention\, and overall\, the general responsibilities of babysitting. There are two date choices available to take this class\, Friday November 29th from 9am to 12pm and Friday December 27th from 9am to 12pm. Both are taking place at the Pembroke Community Center. DESCRIPTION:The LGBTQIA+ community is vibrant and beautifully diverse\, but unfortunately\, it’s also united by a shared experience – discrimination.   The ability to physically defend and protect oneself as a Queer person is imperative\, because this community is at a statistically much higher risk of facing unprovoked violence in their everyday lives. On Tuesday\, January 7th\, from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM\, Plymouth Pride invites you to a one-time only LGBTQIA+ Beginner Self Defense Class at the Plymouth Public Library. There\, instructor Stevie Downie will teach you basic defense skills so you can protect yourself in an emergency situation. This free 18+ event is running as a part of Plymouth Pride’s ongoing “First Tuesday” events that are held every month as a way for the LGBTQ+ community to come together. DESCRIPTION:Photographer Stefanie Faherty will conduct a workshop titled\, “Learn How To Use a DSLR Camera\,” on Wednesday\, January 15 at the Adams Center (33 Summer Street\, Kingston)\, at 6 PM. Whether you just received a Canon or Nikon DSLR camera for Christmas\, have one buried in the closet\, or are curious about learning more about your camera\, this workshop is for you. Faherty will discuss camera settings\, the importance of light\, basic photography skills\, and how to take photos in a myriad of different situations.\n\n\nFaherty\, a graduate of UMass Amherst\, has run her local photography business for the last 12 years. She has a passion for capturing images of newborns and families along the South Shore\, communities in and around Boston\, Cape Cod\, and beyond. Her work has been recognized with the Wicked Local Readers Choice Award in 2014 through 2019\, with top selections in 2017\, 2018\, and 2019. On Friday January 17th at 11:30am Chef Woerner from Cafe Evergreen will be doing a cooking demonstration of how to make a hearty chicken and barley soup with vegetables–the perfect bowl of warm deliciousness to cozy up to during the long cold winter months. The fee of $5 dollars is due upon registration and includes a full portion of the soup\, plus a scrumptious roll to dip and sop up every last savory drop. The recipe will be available for everyone to take home.

SUMMARY:MLK Jr. Weekend "I Am MLK Jr." presented by Plymouth No Place for Hate at Plimoth Patuxet Museum
DESCRIPTION:Organized by the Plymouth No Place for Hate Committee\, the Martin Luther King\, Jr. Weekend is a powerful event series intended to bring the community together to honor\, reflect on and be inspired by Martin Luther King Jr’s  legacy of nonviolent protest and fight for justice and equality for all. It begins on Friday January 17th at 7pm with the documentary “I Am MLK\, Jr.” at the Plimoth Patuxet Museum movie theater. The film is an overview on the life and impact on civil rights Dr. Martin Luther King continues to have to this day. Saturday January 18th will be a day dedicated to service\, with a town-wide food drive. From 9am to 1pm you can drop your non-perishable food items off at any of three collection sites–The Market at Pinehills\, Clements Market\, or the Church of the Pilgrimage. All food collected will be distributed to the food banks at Christ Church\, American Legion\, Salvation Army\, Second Church in Manomet\, and Plymouth Area Coalition for the Homeless. Sunday January 19th events will be held at Plymouth Church of the Pilgrimage.  The day begins with a Ecumenical worship service at 10:30 AM.There will be a light luncheon at 12pm and from 1pm – 3pm enjoy a program featuring Plymouth Middle School Choir\, essay contest winners\, and featured speaker President and CEO of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts\, Rev.Rahsaan D. Hall\, Esq. If you would like to attend the luncheon you must register through the No Place For Hate website. Voluntary donations of non-perishable food items for local food pantries will be collected at the door at all events. I’ll be there\, too\, with the Local Seen street team\, so step up to the mic and say hi.
