DESCRIPTION:If the walls of historic houses could talk\, they might relate stories of mold\, broken bricks\, cracked foundations and rotten frames imposed on their structure by the passing of time. They’d also likely warn of the unforeseen issues and immense challenges found in restoration projects. On Thursday October 10th\, the Pilgrim Hall Speaker Series welcomes Lee McColgan\, author of the book A House Restored: The Tragedies and Triumphs of Saving a New England Colonial. In an engaging two-hour presentation\, he will share his personal journey – a house restoration project   that changed the course of his life\, prompting him to leave his job in finance to become a specialist in historical restoration contracting\, preserving historic buildings\, houses and properties across all time periods.  His book is a memoir steeped in history\, chronicling the painstaking but ultimately rewarding restoration of his 300-year-old South Shore home. The presentation is from 6pm to 8pm at the Pilgrim Hall Museum at 75 Court Street in Plymouth. Tickets are $10 for non-members\, $5 for members and free to students with a valid ID.

DESCRIPTION:Women become more prone to urinary tract infections as they age – by age 65\, one in ten women experience a UTI at least once a year\, and by age 85 the number jumps to one in three. Recognizing the symptoms and receiving early treatment is key to avoiding significant complications.  On Tuesday October 15th the Pembroke Council on Aging is hosting Honoring Women’s Health\, a one-hour program on prevention and symptom identification.  Speaker Roseann Potter\, R.N\, B.S.N\, will teach you how to recognize the signs of UTI induced dementia\, how to advocate for yourself at the doctor’s office and the most effective ways to prevent infections. The presentation starts at 10am and takes place at the Pembroke Community Center. There will be a Q & A session and helpful materials to bring home with you.

Through examining the lives of Hovey and Hammon\, and their connection to the First Church of Plymouth as a source of spiritual sustenance and community\, Professor Green’s lecture will underscore the larger layered narrative about the lived experience of people of color in colonial communities in Plymouth and greater New England.
