These gentle giants were once common off the MA coast\, but were hunted to near extinction during the era of whaling. Today\, with only 370 right whales left\, they face threats from fishing gear entanglement and boat strikes. By highlighting the plight of this species\, perhaps more public support will be shown for their conservation. \nThis film is 1 1/2 hours long\, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session.

Come join Whale & Dolphin Conservation (WDC) staff on a guided walk down to a secluded beach location to view seals resting and swimming in their natural environment. During the walk\, our experts will share fun facts about our flippered friends\, why they are important to the environment\, what species you can find during different seasons and much more. \nThe walk is only a few minutes down to the water\, so this event is suitable for children and adults\, but please note\, we will be walking on uneven terrain/paths. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars for up-close viewing but are not required as we have some available to use. Seals are usually still able to be seen without binoculars. Photographs are welcome! \nPARKING: WDC staff will meet attendees at the bottom parking lot. If the bottom lot is full\, please park up across the street at the additional trail lot. DESCRIPTION:The act of exchanging Valentine’s Day cards may date back as far as the 1400’s\, and this tradition has been 2 good 2 be 4gotten for centuries. Keeping the tradition alive\, The Wildlands Trust is hosting a fun DIY Valentine’s Card Making workshop for kids ages 7 and up on Saturday February 8th. From 10am to 12pm botanical artist and Conservation Agent Tricia Cassady will guide your young creators through the artistic process of crafting their own nature-themed Valentines using watercolors\, colored pencils and pens. All art supplies are provided\, and everyone will leave with up to four handmade cards to take home and exchange with your favorite Valentines. You are welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks to keep the young artists fueled up for creation. There is a small cost of $10 per participant\, discounted to $5 if you are a member. The event is limited to 20 spots so be sure to sign up through the website soon!

This free guided walk will focus on Native Plants and how ecological landscaping and restoration efforts create a healthy\, revitalized landscape that supports local ecosystems. The Native Plant Walk sets off at 11am\, should finish by 12:30\, and will be most enjoyed by adults and families with children ages 8 and above. DESCRIPTION:WHOOOO is the bird with beautifully unusual behavior\, an intriguing physical appearance and fascinating nocturnal lifestyle? Even the most casual bird watcher is awed by the mystery and magnificence of the Owl\,  whoo  can be found on all but one continent and has inspired myths\, legends and art across cultures since ancient times. Want to know more? On Thursday January 23rd join Mass Audubon at the Manomet Branch of the Plymouth Public Library for “Owls of Massachusetts.” This informative program will teach the anatomy and behavior of Snowy Owls and other common owl species found in Massachusetts\, and the significance they all have to local habitats. Adults and families aged 6 and up will enjoy learning more about why humans have given such a HOOT about these captivating birds for thousands of years. There will be no live captive owls as a part of this program. This FREE program is made possible by generous support from the America the Beautiful initiative in partnership with Plymouth Public Library.
