SUMMARY:Kickoff to Seaside Trail StoryWalk to Tidy by Emily Gravett
DESCRIPTION:The book Tidy by award winning author Emily Gravett has environmental preservation and sustainability at its heart.  On Saturday October 5th\, Tidy will be transformed into an immersive StoryWalk experience along the North Plymouth Seaside Trail\, the 1.2 mile path connecting Nelson and Cordage Parks. Kicking off at Nelson Park at 10:00 AM\, you will be able to walk along the trail while learning about all the elements and wildlife that surround you as you also follow the story of Pete the badger\, whose need for neatness causes a chain reaction of environmental consequences. StoryWalk will be up until Monday\, November 4th. The trail is both stroller and wheelchair friendly!  \nThis Story Walk project is a partnership between Plymouth Public Library\, Plymouth Open Space Committee\, Sustainable Plymouth and Plymouth’s Department of Energy and Environment.

SUMMARY:Timeless Tales Children's Lit Book Club at Duxbury Senior Center
DESCRIPTION:Classic children’s books become timeless for good reason: while the words may be simple\, the more complex truths and universal themes illuminate our young minds and continue to nourish our thinking throughout our lives. As George Bernard Shaw implored “Make it a rule never to give a child a book you would not read yourself.” To that end\, the Duxbury Senior Center has established the Timeless Tales Children’s Lit Bookclub. The next group meets on September 10th from 11 to 12pm\, when Shelly Sommers\, a former middle school librarian and writing teacher\, will facilitate a discussion around the enduring tale of adolescence\, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. The group will meet in the Senior Center’s Weyerhaeuser Room. Visit the center’s website to register.

SUMMARY:Pembroke Library Book Club - The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters
DESCRIPTION:The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters is the Pembroke Public Library’s September book club reading choice.  Praised as one of the best books of 2023 by the New Yorker\, the novel begins in the 1960’s during a Mi’kmaq family’s annual trip to Maine to pick blueberries\, and the subsequent disappearance of four-year-old Ruthie. The story then follows dual narratives: one of Joe\, the girl’s six year old brother who was the last person to see her before she disappeared\, and the second  of a young girl named Norma\, who is haunted by recurring dreams\, leading her to intuitively seek out the past she suspects her family is hiding. The book club will meet on Tuesday September 3rd\, from 6:30 to 7:30 in the Pembroke Public Library meeting room for what is certain to be an engaging discussion. New members are always welcome! DESCRIPTION:The “reuse” industry will be the topic of discourse at Kingston Public Library’s Summer Critical Conversation Non-Fiction Book Discussion. August’s featured book is Adam Minter’s wrote Secondhand: Travels in the New Global Garage Sale\, as a global investigation digging into the underbelly of the multi-million dollar\, clandestine secondhand industry\, visiting thrift stores and flea markets from the American Southwest to Tokyo\, and meeting the people that profit off our donated clothes and outdated appliances. The book also links our societal habit of choosing to stuff landfills over repurposing to marketing practices\, design failure and racial prejudice. This powerful book will be the topic for the Kingston Public Library’s Summer Critical Conversation Non-Fiction Book Discussion on August 27th. From 6: 00 – 7:00 PM in the reference area of the library\, join with other community members in friendly discourse about what happens to our discarded stuff\, and why there is so much of it.
