How to Obtain a Mortgage\, the first in the series\, will be taught by Michael Fleming\, Rockland Trust Vice President and senior loan officer. You’ll learn how to qualify for a mortgage\, save for a down payment\, and about the pre-approval process. While sitting comfortably in the Setter Room\, you’ll travel through the temples of Caracol\, explore caves of artifacts\, and tour ancient sites in Belize that one can still visit in current day. Learn about how the Maya incorporated iguanas\, the keeled billed toucan\, colorful parrots and a broad variety of Mesoamerican animals into their stories and intricate carvings\, AND the importance to ceremony and medicine the cacao bean played – this source of chocolate was even used as currency.  This fascinating  hour-long program begins at 2pm and is best enjoyed by adults 18 years and above. The Pembroke Rec Department is offering a one-day\, 3-hour babysitting course to help young sitters improve their babysitting skills and learn the dos and don’ts of being home alone. It is an ideal course for kids ages 10 and up who want to start babysitting\, or perhaps would like a review of the best babysitting practices. This class will provide some hands-on practice caring for infants-spoiler alert\, diapering- and provide information on child development\, playing with young children\, basic first aid\, fire safety and prevention\, and overall\, the general responsibilities of babysitting. There are two date choices available to take this class\, Friday November 29th from 9am to 12pm and Friday December 27th from 9am to 12pm. Both are taking place at the Pembroke Community Center. The cost is $80\, and you can sign up through the Pembroke Park and Rec website.

He will impart knowledge on backing up your computer\, how to save on printer ink and\, yes\, why our technology can get bogged down and run slowly.  Finally\, Marc will talk about how to easily identify fake tech support scammers who use scare tactics to get you to give them money. you’ll  walk out the door more confident in using your digital devices.  This program starts at 6pm at the Faunce School\,at 16 Green Street in Kingston. DESCRIPTION:About the act of sitting down and writing the first draft of a novel\, author Vladimir Nabokov said “The pages are still blank\, but there is a miraculous feeling of the words being there\, written in invisible ink and clamoring to become visible.” The Pembroke Public Library has invited author Stephen White to lead How to Write a Novel\, a workshop that promises to help you begin to make those invisible words appear on the page. In other words–get started on that novel!  A writer for over 50 years with his 12th novel currently in the works\, Stephen will cover all aspects of the novel writing journey\, from brainstorming and shaping your ideas\, to building characters and writing what you know\, to the editing and how to publish your book. This one-hour workshop is on Tuesday November 19th at 6pm. Registration is required and can be done through the library’s website.
