DESCRIPTION:American Sign Language is the predominant language used by deaf communities in the United States\, and linguists and psychologists agree that multilingualism comes with cognitive benefits for everyone.  If you’re interested in learning this natural visual language\, the Pembroke Recreation Department welcomes you to attend their ASL Certification program beginning January 7th at 5:30 PM. This four week session runs every Tuesday for two hours\, until January 28th\, when participants will be awarded certificates of completion and professional development.  The cost is only $150.00 for all four weeks. SUMMARY:DSLR Camera Workshop at the Adams Center
DESCRIPTION:Photographer Stefanie Faherty will conduct a workshop titled\, “Learn How To Use a DSLR Camera\,” on Wednesday\, January 15 at the Adams Center (33 Summer Street\, Kingston)\, at 6 PM. Whether you just received a Canon or Nikon DSLR camera for Christmas\, have one buried in the closet\, or are curious about learning more about your camera\, this workshop is for you. Faherty will discuss camera settings\, the importance of light\, basic photography skills\, and how to take photos in a myriad of different situations.\n\n\nFaherty\, a graduate of UMass Amherst\, has run her local photography business for the last 12 years. She has a passion for capturing images of newborns and families along the South Shore\, communities in and around Boston\, Cape Cod\, and beyond. Her work has been recognized with the Wicked Local Readers Choice Award in 2014 through 2019\, with top selections in 2017\, 2018\, and 2019. Even the most casual bird watcher is awed by the mystery and magnificence of the Owl\,  whoo  can be found on all but one continent and has inspired myths\, legends and art across cultures since ancient times. Want to know more? On Thursday January 23rd join Mass Audubon at the Manomet Branch of the Plymouth Public Library for “Owls of Massachusetts.” This informative program will teach the anatomy and behavior of Snowy Owls and other common owl species found in Massachusetts\, and the significance they all have to local habitats. Adults and families aged 6 and up will enjoy learning more about why humans have given such a HOOT about these captivating birds for thousands of years. There will be no live captive owls as a part of this program. This FREE program is made possible by generous support from the America the Beautiful initiative in partnership with Plymouth Public Library.
