SUMMARY:Plymouth Pride/NOH8 Photo Shoot Event
DESCRIPTION:The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest created by photographer Adam Bouska and partner Jeff Parshley in 2008\, in direct response to legislation intending to ban marriage equality.  Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths\, symbolizing their voices being silenced\, with “NOH8” painted on one cheek in protest.  \nThe NOH8 Campaign has grown from a grassroots groundswell into a charitable organization whose mission is to fight for marriage\, gender and human equality through education\, advocacy\, social media\, and visual protest. NOH8 has hosted photo shoots in 48 of the 50 states in the US\, and 20 countries around the world\, and has captured over 56\,000 faces. \nSo– are YOU ready to lend your look to the fight for equal rights? Plymouth Pride is hosting celebrity photographer and NOH8 co-founder Adam Bouska for a NOH8 campaign photo shoot in Plymouth on Sunday September 8th\, from 2pm to 4pm at Hotel 1620 in Plymouth Harbor. The cost for a solo photo is $40 and for couples or groups\, just $25 per person. No reservations are needed\, just arrive dressed in a plain white shirt and ready to strike a pose. Photos are on a first come first serve basis –   you’ll arrive to fill out a model release\, complete payment\, and receive the famed duct tape and NOH8 temporary tattoo to complete the signature NOH8 look! All money raised at this event goes towards the continued fight for human equality\, anti-discrimination and anti-bullying. For more details visit the NOH8 organization’s website at noh8campaign.com

SUMMARY:The Pilgrim Progress Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:The Pilgrims’ first winter in the New World was brutal – by spring\, nearly half of the colonists had succumbed to the elements from lack of proper shelter\, or disease.  Over one hundred years ago\, the Town of Plymouth instituted a recurring event to honor these founders\, naming it the Pilgrim Progress Reenactment. Based on the written account of Dutch visitor Isaack de Rasieres (rah-zee-ruh)   who came to Plimoth Colony in 1627 and observed the settlers gathering for worship\, the Pilgrim Progress takes place on every Friday in August\, and on Thanksgiving morning.  Costumed participants represent the fifty-one surviving pilgrims\, walking to the solo beat of a drum in their sabbath procession to church.  The last Pilgrim Progress of this summer will be on Friday August 23rd at 6pm. Come witness this long-running tradition\, or follow along as they walk past Plymouth Rock\, up Leyden Street\, and to the top of Burial Hill\, where a short pilgrim worship service will take place. The Pilgrim’s Progress begins at the Mayflower Society House on Winslow Street\, just off North Street in downtown Plymouth.

SUMMARY:Your Vote is Magic: A Celebration of Our Right to Vote
DESCRIPTION:Learn about voter education in a magical\, engaging way with Illusionist Lyn Dillies\, the pioneer and creator of Your Vote is Magic\, a non-partisan mission Lyn developed in honor of her late father\, Calvin Dillies. \nHer dad taught her at an early age that every vote mattes and people working together can create change. Lyn conjured up a ground breaking illusion to kick off her innovative Get Out The Vote campaign…she made two political mascots appear out of thin air\, a live donkey and elephant! She wrote a book about the experience with an overview on voting history and eventually combined her award winning magical skills with her lecturing ability and created an assembly for high schools and libraries to teach high schoolers and citizens the importance of voting and the sacrifice it took for us to have our precious right to vote. Feel inspired and empowered by her captivating Your Vote is Magic presentation! \nRegistration is requested. Visit plymouthpubliclibary.org or call the Reference Department at (508) 830-4250 ext. 205
