DESCRIPTION:The “reuse” industry will be the topic of discourse at Kingston Public Library’s Summer Critical Conversation Non-Fiction Book Discussion. August’s featured book is Adam Minter’s wrote Secondhand: Travels in the New Global Garage Sale\, as a global investigation digging into the underbelly of the multi-million dollar\, clandestine secondhand industry\, visiting thrift stores and flea markets from the American Southwest to Tokyo\, and meeting the people that profit off our donated clothes and outdated appliances. The book also links our societal habit of choosing to stuff landfills over repurposing to marketing practices\, design failure and racial prejudice. This powerful book will be the topic for the Kingston Public Library’s Summer Critical Conversation Non-Fiction Book Discussion on August 27th. From 6: 00 – 7:00 PM in the reference area of the library\, join with other community members in friendly discourse about what happens to our discarded stuff\, and why there is so much of it.
