SUMMARY:Animated Film Festival at Duxbury Senior Center
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday August 22nd the Duxbury Senior Center is hosting an Animated Film Festival celebrating the animated films of beloved British artist Raymond Briggs. Although Briggs himself never animated his work\, his illustrations inspired animators worldwide who thoughtfully brought books such as The Bear and The Snowman to life on the big screen\, lovingly capturing the vulnerable aspects of humanity\, truth and compassion Briggs poured into the tone and feel of his work.  The night will be facilitated by storyteller and educator Beth Camron Kilbridge. The Animated Film Festival will begin at 1pm in the Large Classroom at the Senior Center.  There are limited seats and registration is required for this fantastic and free celebration of visual storytelling. You can register by phone or through the Senior Center’s website.

SUMMARY:The Joy Of Composting - Turning Garbage Into Gold at the Pembroke Public Library
DESCRIPTION:To quote the beloved reveler in rubbish Oscar the Grouch\, “Trash is the true essence of life.” Visit the Pembroke Public Library on August 22nd to learn to bring lushness to your backyard garden by harnessing the lifeforce of garbage. Ann McGovern will present The Joy of Composting – Turning Garbage into Gold\, a talk on how your food scraps and yard waste can be turned into nutrient rich compost that will help your garden grow. Learn the basics of composting\, including how to select the right method\, balance green and brown materials\, manage moisture\, aeration\, and general troubleshooting. Ann was a composting outreach specialist for the Mass Department of Environmental Protection for 32 years\, and in her retirement is enjoying continuing to share the dirt on dirt. The presentation is from 2:30 to 3:30 at the library and welcomes green thumbs and everyone else. Visit the library website to register.    \n
