American philosopher and gender studies scholar Judith Butler wrote, “There is no gender identity behind the expressions of gender… identity is performatively constituted by the very ‘expressions’ that are said to be its results.” So, how do we define what gender means in today’s world? If you’re interested in learning more on this topic, the Duxbury Council on Aging is hosting the enlightening presentation and conversation “Gender in the 21st Century: An Overview” that aims to shed light on how the perception of gender has shifted and changed since the beginning of the century.
