Classic children’s books become timeless for good reason: while the words may be simple, the more complex truths and universal themes illuminate our young minds and continue to nourish our thinking throughout our lives. As George Bernard Shaw implored “Make it a rule never to give a child a book you would not read yourself.” To that end, the Duxbury Senior Center has established the Timeless Tales Children’s Lit Bookclub. The next group meets on September 10th from 11 to 12pm, when Shelly Sommers, a former middle school librarian and writing teacher, will facilitate a discussion around the enduring tale of adolescence, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. The group will meet in the Senior Center’s Weyerhaeuser Room. Visit the center’s website to register.
